Oats and milk have long been known as great additions to your bath to calm and moisturize your skin. Calendula is a flower that is known for being soothing to sensitive skin, as well.
We added lavender essential oils and flowers for their calming properties. Epsom salts are great for soothing achy muscles and adding a dose of magnesium, which also has calming properties.

Our Lavender Oatmeal Milk Bath uses many of the same ingredients as our Milk and Honey Bath Soak. You can easily make both of these bath products at the same time.
DIY Lavender and Calendula Milk Bath Soak
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Powdered Goat’s Milk
- 1/4 Cup Oats (Regular or Quick Cooking)
- 1 Cup Epsom salts
- 1/4 Cup Dried Lavender
- 1/4 Cup Dried Calendula
- 1 Teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil
- 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 15 drops Calendula Essential Oil
Directions
Step 1
Add the powdered goat’s milk and oatmeal into a bowl and stir to combine.
Step 2
Stir in the sweet almond oil and mix completely.
Step 3
Add the Epsom salts, dried lavender, and dried calendula and stir together gently.
Step 4
Next, stir in the essential oils.
Store in a jar or other airtight container.
Helpful Tips
How Much Should I Use in a Bath?
Use at least half a cup, or 8 tablespoons, in a bath. As some bath tubs are much bigger than others, you may need to use more if you have a large tub.
Can I Use Regular Powdered Milk?
Yes, any type of powdered milk will work in this homemade bath soak. Cow’s milk or goat milk will give the same results. If you are substituting cow’s milk, we suggest using whole milk powder rather than a reduced fat milk.
Coconut milk powder can be substituted but it does not have lactic acid, so the skin moisturizing properties will come from its oils.
Oat Milk Powder is an alternative to goats milk powder, too.
Can I Leave Out the Epsom Salts?
Yes, you can omit the epsom salts if you would like. While epsom salts are great for soothing tired muscles as well as adding magnesium, they are not necessary for the moisturizing properties.
Can I Use Scented Epsom Salts?
Lavender epsom salts are available and can add another layer of fragrance to your bath. However, many brands use synthetic fragrance or perfume to add the lavender scent. Our homemade lavender oatmeal milk bath uses all natural ingredients, so be sure you know all of the ingredients of what you are using.
If you want to use lavender epsom salts, I suggest this brand that uses lavender essential oil as the fragrance.
How Do I Store This Milk Bath Soak?
Store this homemade milk bath in an air-tight container away from direct light, heat or high humidity. We prefer using a glass jar, but you can store it in a plastic container if needed. This is perfect to store in a cabinet or drawer, but don’t place it in a windowsill!
If giving as a gift, we suggest storing in a clear glass jar to show off the beautiful bath soak with flowers!
Can the Flower Petals and Oatmeal Go Down the Tub Drain?
While the small pieces of flower petals and oatmeal can easily go down the drain with your bathwater, we suggest scooping out the larger pieces to avoid clogging.
Using an inexpensive bathtub drain strainer can save you a lot of hassle from having to scoop out the petals and oatmeal.
