Ikea’s PEVA Shower Curtain

Looking for a PVC-free shower curtain?  Even know what the difference is?

PEVA shower curtains are a healthier alternative than PVC shower curtains. Why? PVC off gasses toxic chemicals for months into your indoor air.  PEVA shower curtains do not.  They’re both made of plastic, both have a nearly identical look and feel – it’s just one is a lot nastier than the other.

I bought a 100% PEVA shower curtain at IKEA – their Nackten line. It looks and performs just like any other shower curtain.

But the best part?  No nasty, plastic-y smell when you open up the package and hang the curtain (that smell is offgassing toxins, by the way) and the price can’t be beat – $1.79!

This is perhaps one of the easiest, healthiest, cheapest ways you can go green, live healthier and not have to alter your lifestyle in any way.

Why It’s Better For Your Health: PEVA shower curtains don’t release potentially toxic chemicals like PVC shower curtains do.  You won’t be inhaling toxic fumes in your bathroom (and, therefore, throughout your entire house) for days and months after hanging a new shower curtain.

Why It’s Better For the Earth:  The production of PVC sends off dioxins into the air and dumped into the waterways.  Dioxin is a suspected carcinogen.  And creating PVC uses chlorine, another not-so-friendly chemical towards the Earth. Both are toxic chemicals that aren’t good for anyone, or anything, to be exposed to.

How can you avoid GMOs in foods? Just take your iPhone or iPod with you to the grocery store!

There’s a new iPhone App that helps consumers avoid GMOs in their foods – Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) which have been engineered to contain their own pesticides and haven’t been adequately tested for consumer safety.

The Institute for Responsible Technology has a FREE App that will tell you what’s safe and healthier to eat while you’re in the grocery store picking up tonight’s dinner.

Visit the iTunes store and search for the free Non-GMO Shopping Guide app.

Watch my video review of Plum Organics “Just” line of baby foods.  While these great pouches of 100% organic fruits are designed for kids – I find they’re a perfect alternative for healthy snacks for adults, too!

Full disclosure: I was not given any “Just” baby foods by Plum Organics, nor was I compensated in any way.  I am, however, a member of the Plum Parent Ambassadors – simply because I like their products and think they work!

Wish you could outfit your little one in organic duds, but the prices are just too high?  Well, check this out!

Wal-Mart has organic baby clothes and organic kids clothes on clearance.  Prices may vary, and the options will vary in the store and on www.walmart.com. However, you can pick up deals such as $3 baby boy’s organic cotton cargo shorts and $4 Boys organic cotton raglan tees.

These are just some clearance prices.  But check out Wal-Mart’s everyday values on organic clothing, too.  The prices aren’t bad – $10 for adult men’s organic polos and $10 for a 2-pack of girl’s smocked dresses.  If you’re searching for organic clothing at a cheap price, Wal-Mart might be a surprising choice for you!

Weleda Skin Care on Clearance at Target

Weleda’s skin care line is great, but it can be a little pricey.  So if you’re interested in trying their products, which are full of organic and biodynamic ingredients, head to Target and score some Weleda products on clearance.

At Target stores in my area, I’ve seen the Sea Buckthorn Body Wash on clearance for $7 and the Sea Buckthorn Lotion on clearance for $9.99 (50% off).  Travel sizes of the Sea Buckthorn body wash could be found for around a $1 and I got some travel sizes of Weleda body oil for just .62 cents.

Each Target has different sales and selections, but it might be worth it to take a look down the natural cosmetics aisle and see what deals you can find.
