Green Your Halloween – Day 2 – Swap Your Costumes
You know how much money Halloween costumes cost?? And they’re a one time only deal. Seems silly to me.
That’s why the brilliant minds behind Green Halloween®, a non-profit, community initiative to create healthier and more sustainable holidays, are sponsoring the first ever National Costume Swap Day on Saturday, October 9. In partnership with Kiwi Magazine and Swap.com, parents can come together to swap out once-used Halloween costumes and walk away with something new.
Check online for an official swap near you, or host your own. Gather together friends, family, people from school, etc. and bring anything that might be used as a great Halloween costume and then have fun! More tips and thoughts of hosting a costume swap can be found on the National Costume Swap Day webpage.
Don’t have a Costume Swap event located near you? Don’t worry, you don’t even have to get off the couch to swap out your kid’s Halloween costumes if you use Thredup.com! This cool online clothing swap lets you swap Halloween costumes for just $5 plus shipping. A UPS pickup will be scheduled for you, so all you have to do is box up old costumes and wait until a box of new-to-you items comes to your door! With 1,000 boxes being swapped each week, this is a great way to get a Halloween costume without extra cost or the hassle of going to the store. (They’ve also got swaps for dance gear, scouting uniforms, etc, so be sure to take a look!)
While these events might be geared towards kids, adults should get in on the costume swapping, too. Saving money with a great excuse for a get-together… isn’t greening your Halloween fun?!
