All Natural Cold Relief
What do you reach for when you’ve got a cold or the sniffles? If you’re trying to use more natural and homeopathic products to say goodbye to a cold instead of reaching for chemical-laden over the counter drugs, you might want to try out these items:
Traditional Medicinals Herbal Teas
These teas really work, and they taste great, too! I can atest to the Organic Throat Coat, which is a sweetly spicy tea with a base of licorice; Organic Echinacea Elder, which doesn’t really have much of a strong taste at all; and Organic Echinacea Plus, which doesn’t have much of a strong taste except for a faint hint of spearmint.
Brewing up hot tea while fighting off a cold is a good thing, anyway, as the hot water and steam unclog nasal passages and get things moving. These teas are made with herbs such as licorice, marshmallow root and slippery elm bark to naturally and effectively help ease your symptoms. Many of the teas are certified organic and have been clinically tested.
I started using these teas long before my doctor actually recommended taking them – he specifically recommended Throat Coat.
Traditional Medicinals Syrups
I just recently discovered Traditional Medicinals’ syrups. If you’re not one for drinking tea, or would rather just swallow a spoonful of something and be on the go, this might work for you. Traditional Medicinals offers three herbal syrups – Echinacea Elder for the immune system, Herba Tussin for coughs, and Throat Coat to soothe sore throats. Keep in mind, though, that these syrups are sweet!! They’re in a base of honey, so it’s really like swallowing a spoonful of honey. No medicinal taste here! There’s also a Throat Coat Herbal Pastille for an oral pain reliver for sore throats.
Zand Herbal Lozenges
Zand offers an array of herbal lozenges for all kinds of needs, but they all have one thing in common – they’re sweetened only with natual rice syrup, not artificial sweeteners , sorbitol or surcrose.
I tried the Echinacea Zinc Cherry Herbal Lozenge. They’re really quite good! Doesn’t have that fake, nasty cherry taste that other types of medicines have. In fact, the flavor is very complex as it also contains orange and lemon peel, rose hips and hibiscus. Truly a delight when you’re counteracting the effects of a cold! Zinc, by the way, is clinically shown to cut the duration and severity of colds, hence the reason it’s in so many lozenges.
Zand also makes Lemon Zinc, Orange C and Menthol, New Elderberry Zinc, New Green Tea with Echinacea, Honey Lemon Soother, Blue-Berries Blend, Tropical and Cran-Raspberry.
Why not give herbal remedies a try if you need some cold relief this cold season? Without the nasty side effects of drowsiness, thirst, etc, that can come with traditional over the counter drugs, you might be surprised at the effectiveness of simple, all natural herbs that have been used effectively for generations.
